Moving home is always an exciting experience, but it can also be nerve-wracking because there are so many things to think about and to take care of that you can begin to worry that you might have forgotten something. At Movers International, the first piece of advice that we can give is to sit down and make a list of everything that needs to be done – and we do mean everything – and after you have done that, go through the list carefully and sort it into the order by which everything should be done and the dates that they should be done by.
When you then remember something that you should have put on the list but didn’t – and it would be a miracle if that didn’t happen – it is a simple matter to add it in.

Whether you are just moving across Preston or moving overseas, you still need a list: it is just that if you are moving overseas the list will be longer.

You may be moving for one of many reasons such as needing a bigger house as your family has grown, downsizing because the kids have left home, moving out of town into the country – or the other way around – moving for work reasons, or one of many others.

The first thing, obviously, is to find the right home, and in this connection we would suggest that if you have to move in a hurry – perhaps for work reasons – the best idea is to rent accommodation in the area to which you are going because this will give you time to explore the area and find the perfect home rather than rushing things, finding a few months down the line that you are not happy with the home, and having to move again! That would be a real pain.

Next is to take a good look at all your possessions and get rid of all that “stuff” that has accumulated that you don’t really need. This is the perfect time to have a serious clear-out and hold a garage sale, give things to charity, give them to friends, or put them in the bin. Only take things that you really need and want to take rather than things that “might come in useful”. They won’t. And there is no point in paying us to move them for you and then throwing them away later.

When choosing your removal firm, even if you don’t choose us, make sure that the company that you settle for is a member of the British Association of Removers and a Which? Trusted Trader – both of which we are, incidentally. Whoever you use for your removal, book up well in advance. What with Covid-19 and the present stamp duty holiday in the UK, all removers are getting fairly booked up.

Very often when people move home, their new home is not yet ready to move into. This can be for one of many reasons and is often the case if you are moving into temporary accommodation. If this means that you need somewhere to store your furniture in the meantime, we can help you at Movers International. We provide totally free storage in Lancashire for a period of four weeks for your possessions. These are stored in large wooden storage containers that will keep your belongings dry and pest free. We do charge a fee after the four weeks, but you can leave your furniture etc., for as long as you need to.

With our free storage in Lancashire we will also happily accept any new items that you may be buying. Just have the seller deliver them to us and we’ll keep them until you are ready for them.
