If you are considering moving to France, you are by no means alone. After Spain and Portugal, France is one of the most popular countries for Brits who wish to move abroad, and there are certain advantages. Not the least of those is distance. You can drive to a port such as Calais or Dunkirk and be back “home” in an hour or so! Perfect if you simply want to visit family and friends from time to time.
Of course, France is a big country. That means that in the North the climate is much like ours on the South Coast, while it stretches all the way down to the Mediterranean where the climate is totally different. If you are going to move permanently, it is worth renting for a few months and researching local properties. This is because those that are advertised to foreigners are often over-priced. Not only that, but all property sold in France is sold “en l’etat” – as is. That means that you have no come-back if you find defects later on.

Get A Notaire

You really do need to get a notaire if you are buying a property. They are rather like a solicitor and can deal with all property matters, prepare leases, form companies, and handle property valuations. They are also a mine of information about properties because despite the fact that the number of estate agents is rising, most properties are still sold by notaires.

If you spend more than 183 days in France, then you are officially a French resident and subject to French taxes and laws. This can affect your estate in the event of your death because in France it is subject to laws which dictate that it is split equally between all your direct heirs.

As far as France removals are concerned, you need a company that understands all the French customs and laws and knows how to get you to small villages in the mountains – if that is where you are going. At Movers International we have over 30 years’ experience of France removals and so can take you anywhere you wish.

We also run a weekly service to France, which is perfect if you only need to move a small number of items – or even a single one. On the opposite side, we can move a complete business to France as well if that is what you require. Your wish is our command.
