If you are considering moving to France, you are by no means alone. After Spain and Portugal, France is one of the most popular countries for Brits who wish to move abroad, and there are certain advantages. Not the least of those is distance. You can drive to a port such as Calais or Dunkirk and be back “home” in an hour or so! Perfect if you simply want to visit family and friends from time to time.
Spain is one of the top “go to” countries for British retirees. Along with Portugal, it is a regular holiday destination for many families who go there year after year for their annual two-week break. For the most part, the weather in nice and sunny, the locals have a relaxed and laid back attitude, and your pound goes a lot further than it does in Bradford, or Edinburgh, or Cardiff. So, when you have finished that 45 years, or whatever, and claimed your pension, why wouldn’t you sell up and move out there?
Moving home can be an exciting and scary experience at the same time. Exciting, because you are going to a new place with new neighbours as a minimum. However, it can be more than this because you may also be moving to a completely different part of the country with a different locale and different facilities. So, you will have to find the time to acclimatise and get to know and understand your new surroundings. Where the shops are, where the best butcher is, maybe which is the best local pub.
