The town of Chorley in Lancashire has a population of just under 40,000 and was originally a mining town, but that eventually diminished and was replaced by cotton mills. Those, too, eventually declined and the town became known for manufacturing trucks, along with military vehicles and tanks during the Second World War. Today Leyland Trucks still have a presence in the borough along with BAE Systems.
