Moving to another country is an exciting experience. Even if it is one that you think you know well because you have been there on holiday several times, such as Spain perhaps, there is still an awful lot to learn and you have to adapt to a new way of life. Customs will be different. The weather may be very different too: you could be going to somewhere warm such as the Caribbean where you will never need an overcoat again, or you could be going to northern Canada where you most certainly will need your overcoat!
There are also going to be tears, too, as you have to say goodbye to family members and old friends that you may have known for years.

However, as one of the foremost international shipping companies in the UK, at Movers International we understand only too well that there are 1,001 things to do before you move to wherever you are going and there is always that niggling worry that you may forget to do something. We can move you to wherever it is that you are going, but there are a lot of things that you need to do yourself.

Now we have said this before, but it is worth repeating. You really do need to get rid of anything that you don’t need to take with you to your new home. For example, if you are going to the Caribbean, you are never going to need that overcoat, so take it to the charity shop. You need to consider very carefully what is going to be needed in future and what is not. Apart from any other consideration, the less you take with you, the less your move is going to cost, so there is no point in taking something with you because “it might come in handy”. Get rid of it!

The next thing to do is to create a moving calendar. You need a list of things that you have to do, of course, but you also have to have a date by which they must be done so that you can tick off each job one by one. This will ensure that everything is done in good time and that you are not rushing around like a maniac at the last minute trying to catch up.

You also need to set up a budget so that you know how much everything is going to cost – our moving fees, insurance expenses, your travel fees and costs, cost of packing materials if you are going to do it yourself, and so on. When you have arrived at the final figure add another 50% to it. Then you will be certain that you have covered all the extra expenses that you didn’t think about.

Decide on a moving date. As your moving company, we can work with you to start your moving (and packing if required) on a suitable date. However, you may need to take into consideration the start of a new job, end of school term, etc. Remember also that moving in peak season will cost more than the less busy periods of the year.

As one of the largest international shipping companies, we can tell you that you must collect all your important documents that you will need before, during, and immediately after your move. You also need to inform a long list of people of your new address and the date of your move. In addition, you need to cancel all your utilities – electricity, gas, water, phone, cable tv, and so on.

Then you can leave all the rest to us and trust us to get all your belongings to wherever you are going so that they are there when you arrive.
