There are Many Things you need to Do when Moving Home

When you are moving home, whether it is to Germany or anywhere else for that matter, there are a lot of things that you need to do in order to make your move go as seamlessly as possible. At Movers International we can take care of the physical side of things – packing up all your belongings and transporting them to your destination – but there are many other things that you have to take care of yourself. 

 

Here are some of the most important things you need to do, in no particular order. The first one is something that many people fail to do, or don’t want to do, but will save you a lot of time and hassle. This is to take a close look at all your belongings and get rid of unnecessary items! Over the years we all collect lots of “stuff” and much of it is things that we no longer use. 

 

For instance, take a look at your wardrobe. If you have things in there that you haven’t worn for a couple of years (and you do!), the fact is that you will never wear them again. So get rid. Take them to the charity shop, hold a garage sale, give them to friends, or take them to the tip. This goes for many things that you own. If you no longer use them, why pay us to remove them for you? The less you move, the less you pay. 

 

You also need to change your address with a lot of people – not only friends and family, but credit card companies, your bank, children’s school, doctor, insurance companies, solicitor, HMRC, and anyone else that you have dealings with who will need to know where you are. Or more importantly, you need them to know where you are. 

 

You also need to inform utilities, such as your electricity company, gas if applicable, water, newsagent, milkman, cable TV, broadband suppliers, and so on. In addition, you must gather together all your personal documents, financial documents, and property documents, medical and school records, and sort them out and put them in separate folders or envelopes. 

 

Don’t forget your pets. If you are moving locally you will be able to take them in your car, but if you are relocating to Germany, for instance, there will be all sorts of regulations that you must follow. You will also need somewhere to house them until you have moved and settled in. in addition, you will need to get them checked by a vet and have health certificates issued.
